Structural Material Manager Version 12.0 Upgrade

Introduction: This information summarizes the improvements that have been made to the Version 12.0 Structural Material Manager software system.

Standardizing Plate, Checkered Plate and Bar Descriptions: Plate and Checkered Plate descriptions are normally expressed as thickness x width such that the thickness is the smaller of the dimensions. That convention is applied nearly universally so that the alternative width x thickness format is rarely encountered rarely encountered except in very few CAD systems that for some reason reverse the order.

Standard nomenclature for Bar descriptions places the width before the thickness so that the smaller dimension is to be last in the width x thickness format. Although the reverse format of thickness x width is also commonly encountered, width x thickness is the technically-correct Bar format.

In the new Version 12.0 upgrade, descriptions of Plates, Checkered Plates and Bars can be automatically checked for standard description order, and that order can be reversed if necessary. The following screen shot shows the dialog at which this is done for Plates and Checkered Plates, and it is of course very similar to the dialog that handles Bar options:

Not only can the system standardize descriptions of items that are already present in the material list, but descriptions can also be automatically standardized as the items are being imported from external data files. The Import External Data Dialog shown below now has new options to control this:
